Trekking through the hill tribes of Northern Thailand

Thailand Hill Tribe Trek“These four days of walking are a highlight for most travelers on this trip. We’re on our feet for up to four hours a day in hilly terrain, sleeping the nights in basic village huts. This is a great opportunity to meet the locals and learn about life in a number of ethnic hilltribe communities, an eye-opening experience!” - Intrepid Travel Itinerary

Hill tribe villagers migrated from China

The hilltribe peoples migrated south from China into what are now Burma, Laos, Vietnam and Thailand. They survive by farming, and they migrate when the soil is depleted. On our particular journey we stayed with the Akha and the Lahu hilltribes. All the villagers we met were extremely friendly and welcomed us into their homes and offered us food and drink without asking for anything in return (although they were pleased to offer us their handmade bead-bracelets, bags and purses in a little bazaar they held in the village center prior to our departure Eye-wink
